A Consistent Practice

  • Practice at your own personal pace. No matter where you're practicing, don't try to compete and don't compare your practice to anyone else's. Practicing at home sometimes can give you a newfound feeling of confidence and help create a space for you to creatively express. It's important to be able to create a space within you that tells you "yes, you're safe here" when you're on your mat. Use props and learn modifications to best fit your body so you can work with what you've got in the most productive and beneficial way!

  • Try new things! Always be incorporating something new into your practice (whether it be physical, mental or both). Something that feels good and is for you. Get inspired by attending a new class, or doing a video at home by a teacher who inspires you. Go to a meet-up to meet new people, or maybe just turn up some of your favorite tunes at home and free flow.

  • Journaling about your practice can be so fun and a great opportunity for growth in your practice. Make up your own flows and take notes. Map it out so that you can come back and refer to it later. Your own personal class package, for free!

  • Get a mentor. I grew tremendously during the first couple of years practicing hot yoga when I finally found a solid community at a local studio. Finding a group of people that you connect with and love to practice yoga with can be so empowering. Not only a group, but also one-on-one connections with a teacher who's class you resonate with can help you to really get to know what your yoga practice means or could mean for your life. Having a teacher as an accountability partner will help you to continue your practice, grow in knowledge, and connect you deeper with your own practice.
